The Ocean Film Festival Canada is proud to support vital environmental ocean causes, such as preserving the Pacific Salmon and its habitat. Through initiatives like beach clean-up efforts, we are dedicated to making a positive impact in our community for the well-being of the ocean ecosystem.
We support:
Howe Sound Revival is a newly founded non-profit organization based in the Howe Sound (Átl'ka7tsem) UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Our goal is to document and share the revival of marine life in the Howe Sound through underwater acoustics. We aim to create a space for the Sea to Sky and wider community to connect with the Howe Sound and listen to marine mammal vocalizations in real-time. Further, we aim to create an acoustic baseline for marine mammal presence that can be compared across future years.
Currently, we are focused on the Howe Sound Hydrophone Project. We are still in the infancy and fundraising stage of this project and current efforts are focused on networking, community outreach, and proposing a hydrophone location.
BC Marine Trails is dedicated to preserving and promoting a sustainable network of recreational marine sites along the British Columbia coastline, ensuring that paddlers, sailors, and boaters can explore while minimizing their environmental impact. Through partnerships with First Nations, governments, and conservation groups, BC Marine Trails works to protect sensitive coastal areas, support Indigenous stewardship initiatives, and educate outdoor enthusiasts on respectful visitation practices. Their Code of Conduct and Site Condition Reporting Program empower the recreational community to actively contribute to marine conservation.
With over 1,400 sites on their interactive map, BC Marine Trails is at the forefront of sustainable coastal recreation, blending adventure with advocacy. From organizing marine debris cleanups to collaborating with First Nations on stewardship initiatives, BCMT fosters a culture of care and respect for BC’s coastal ecosystems. Whether you’re a kayaker, paddleboarder, power boater, or sailor, BC Marine Trails provides the resources to help you explore responsibly and support the long-term health of our shared waters.
Pacific Salmon Foundation was founded on the understanding that the regeneration and recovery of wild Pacific salmon couldn’t be tackled by government alone. There was a need to develop a broader movement as a catalyst to engage communities, volunteers, and the private sector to tackle the wide range of issues facing wild Pacific salmon.
Today, our core programs include; Community Salmon Program – grantmaking focused on community-led restoration and enhancement initiatives; Marine Science Program – research and applied action to better understand the environmental and limiting factors affecting salmon populations; Climate Adaptation – focused on the impacts of climate change on salmon habitat and the areas where people can help them adapt; Watersheds – data and monitoring to support critical management decisions through open source sharing of information.
Seymour River Fish Hatchery & Education Centre
We enhance salmon populations and encourage sustainable management of fisheries in the Seymour River. Our mission is to educate everyone about the value of the Seymour River and the salmonids it supports as a resource for everyone living in British Columbia.
Each year we raise 30,000 Steelhead and 120,000 Coho.
Every second year about 500,000 Pinks and 500,000 Chum are released into the Seymour Watershed
Our 'Gently Down the Seymour' Education Program teaches elementary school students about this life cycle.
Ocean Wise is a globally focused conservation organization on a mission to restore and protect our ocean. Through research, education, public engagement, and international collaborations, we empower communities to fight three major ocean challenges: ocean pollution, overfishing and climate change. By equipping and empowering individuals, communities, industries, and governments, we can create a future where people and our ocean can thrive.
